Planning the Bachelor Party

Most grooms end up with one day out of a year’s worth of wedding planning that they can call their own, the bachelor party. Take the time to personalize it, make it special and memorable. In today’s economy the stretch limo, high end restaurant and a night at the may be out of the question, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time. If the plan is to stay close to home here are a few menu solutions.

Bachelor parties are rarely formal events. Guys still like quick, easy to eat, fun and

Fresh pizza from the oven!

filling foods. Think oven ready items with quick preparation times and selections that might compliment a cold beer or two. Does pizza come to mind? It should! And it doesn’t have to be frozen, it doesn’t event have to be the normal pizza shape. How about pizza bread that looks like a sub sandwich, but filled with warm oozing fresh mozzarella, sweet and spicy marinara and savory bites of Italian sausage. Slice it like a sub, about an inch to an inch and a half thick, this way you can eat it with one hand and roll the dice with the other.

The thrill of the grill still exists in most of us and since you are about to be a family man you will probably be expected to feed them once in a while. So it’s probably a good idea to fire up the grill and practice on your friends first! Individual steaks can be costly, but a good quality flank steak could do the trick, place it in a marinade for say 8 hours. You can use your favorite bottled Italian dressing. Shake off the excess marinade before placing it on the grill to avoid large flames. Grill it to its medium rare perfection and slice it real thin. Serve it with a side or horseradish cream and garlicky mashed potatoes and you’ll have a winner.

If you don’t want to do the cooking than ask your beautiful bride for your caterer’s phone number. Think food stations so the guys can still walk around and mingle, play cards or other activities. Start off with a pasta station offering a choice or 2 -3 different shapes or filled pastas like cheese ravioli or tortellini. For choice of condiments go with sausage, roasted peppers, Parmesan cheese and basil pesto to name a few. Sauces can be tomato, creamy Alfredo or just white wine, butter and garlic. Don’t forget to use that grill, not for the pasta but for garlicky prawns with tarragon remoulade or chicken satays with sesame peanut sauce, they’ll be on sticks and are easy and fun to eat!

I would skip dessert as not a lot of the guys go for the sweet stuff. Have some strategically placed bowls of M&Ms, honey roasted nuts or bite size pieces of quality chocolates. If you go with a theme than be sure it flows to the dessert. There are lots of options for you to keep it affordable, fun and simple while still saying this is my day.

Imagine the possibilities…
