Peoria Tidbits
Peoria is located in two counties: the majority of it is in Maricopa County, and a tiny part is in Yavapai Like Chandler, Peoria is also considered a suburb of Phoenix. The city got its name from Peoria, Illinois. In July 2008, the city was included on the list of the Top 100 Places to Live by Money magazine. As of 2018, the population was estimated to be 172,259 residents, and the median income of one household in Peoria would be around $ 69,589. Today, Peoria is ranked 6th in terms of the having biggest land area in Arizona.
Looking back, the development started in Peoria when the Santa, Prescott and Phoenix Railroad wanted to created more routes. By 1919, the Peoria Chamber of Commerce established. It served as its governing body until such a time when Peoria was officially declared a city in 1954.
Did you know that there are quite a lot of properties in Peoria that are included in the National Register of Historic Places? Aside from that the Peoria Arizona Historical Society was formed. The society aims to preserve the buildings and artifacts that contained remnants of Peoria’s past. The Peoria Central School, which is included in the National Register of Historic Places, is the location of the Peoria Arizona Historical Society Museum.
The second landmark to be included on the National Register of Historic Places was the Palo Verde Ruin. It was once the settlement of the biggest Hohokam tribe along the New River. If you are looking for the oldest building in Peoria, then you should head to the Peoria Presbyterian Church. Built in 1899, the church is located at 10236 83rd Avenue.
Another important structure in Peoria is the Edwards Hotel. It was the very first hotel in Peoria. The hotel was built in 1918, it was three stories high. However, in 2018, Edwards Hotel was successfully acquired by Dan Halbert. Instead of being demolished, he decided to renovate the 100-year-old building and turn it into the newest vacation spot. Dan Halbert wants to promote it as a haunted hotel in order to attract more tourists to the city.
After the hotel, the Peoria Women’s Club was built in 1919. Before the Paramount Theater was constructed, the Peoria Women’s Club, located at 10351 84th Avenue, operated as a venue to watch movies. The following year, a local theater was finally constructed.
The Paramount Theater, located in 8307 W. Washington Street, was eventually became the Peoria Theater. Unfortunately, the theater was ravaged by fire in 1947. After 7 years, the structure was rebuilt as Peoria’s Fire Station #1.
Another structure that was built in 1918 was the Saliba’s Pay ‘n Takit. Situated 8295 W. Washington Street, the first supermarket in Peoria was owned and managed by the Saliba family. Lastly, the Peoria’s Post Office, the city’s first post office, was also built in 1918.
Fast forward to the year 2000, Peoria grew into having 108,364 residents and 29,309 families. The number of households was 39,184 households, 62.0% of which were married couples. No wonder why Peoria was included on the Top 100 Places to Live! If YOU live here, chances are you would be happy and married too.

July 8, 2021 I knew I wanted 3 super quality vendors for my wedding. Food, flowers, and photos. Man did we nail it with all 3!
First off, coordinating with Amber at Creations in Cuisine was a pure joy. You can tell she really wants you to enjoy yourself and that everything is just what you want. They don't try to push you in to more than you need and they are SUPER accommodating. I have celiac disease and we had a bunch of allergies in our group and they took into consideration ALL of them. Everyone could eat everything. And my little nephews were PUMPED that they got mac and cheese. One of my nephews decided he really liked the catering captain on the day, and kept talking to her and showing her around the yard. She was so great with him. The buffet tables they set up were gorgeous, beyond what we had expected. The thought they put into everything was so lovely. And the food! Oh my gosh! We're still talking about the flank steak, and my brother couldn't get enough of the street tacos. I feel like food often fall short with large catering, this did NOT disappoint.
It's also great that they work with the rental vendor so we could batch it all in to one!
